INDIA Spirulina (Tirupur and Madurai)

Spirulina can be used as a food supplement with a high nutritional value. This perfectly edible aquatic microorganism can be produced locally in hot or even desert regions. It contains micronutrients that are easily absorbed by the human body. A few grams of spirulina taken every day greatly improve traditional renutrition programmes. The production of spirulina also requires ten times less water than that of soya.

The programme of spirulina distribution began in the Tiripur Rajaji Nagar school in September 2005 with the distribution of one chikkie (Indian biscuit) containing spirulina to each child, 25 days a month during three months. Today, the six Switcher schools benefi t from this nutritional programme.
